Who’s standing up for the Amazon?

A new Mighty Earth analysis finds that none of eight major retailers and food-service companies has reached fully deforestation-free soy, as the Amazon Soy Moratorium comes under pressure.

The Amazon Soy Moratorium has long committed major traders not to buy soy grown on Amazon land cleared after 2008, but it is now under pressure after key traders left the agreement. A new Mighty Earth analysis, drawing on monitoring by ICV, tracks recent deforestation near soy infrastructure in Mato Grosso and assesses whether eight major retailers and food-service companies, including Lidl and Aldi, are delivering on their deforestation-free soy commitments. None of them has reached fully deforestation-free soy yet.
